The team will be one of the 23 teams of ASME student members competing in the final round of the competition next month at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. To celebrate its upcoming 50th anniversary, the National Academy of Engineering has launched the Engineering for You (E4U) Video Contest to highlight how engineering creations serve the welfare of humanity and the needs of society.The Academy is offering a top prize of $25,000 for the most inspiring one- to two-minute video focusing on engineering innovations that have occu rred since 1964 or future engineering feats that could take place by 2064. Entries are currently being accepted for the contest, which will run through March 31, 2014.The contest is open to individuals or teams in the following six competition categories middle school students (grades 6-8) high school students (grades 9-12) tertiary education students (two-year college through graduate school, full or part time) participants and alumni of the NAE Frontiers of Engineering and Frontiers of Engineering Education programs NAE members and foreign associates and the general public, including companies, government entities, and not-for-profit organizations.Video submissions, which should have a resolution of 1080p, can encompass any technique or genre, including animation, documentary, drama, experimental or artist video, and hybrid work as long as they are under two minutes, can be uploaded on YouTube, comply to the rules, and are suitable for viewing by the general public. In addition to the $25,000 Best Overall Video prize, the contest will offer a $5,000 Peoples Choice Award as well as a prize of up to $5,000 for the top video in each of the six categories. Entries will be judged on the following three criteria creativity in the content selection and presentation likely public appeal and interest and effectiveness in emphasizing how engineering contributions aid society.Winning videos will be featured on the NAE website and the NAE contest website and will be shown at the NAE 50th anniversary celebration during the Academys annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in September 2014.For more information on the Engineering for You Video Contest, visit www.e4uvideocontest.org.
